People of faith and conscience from across Louisiana and around the nation will gather in Alexandria for an interfaith vigil calling for the protection of immigrant children and families.
We gather to bear witness, offer prayer, and affirm the inherent dignity of every person. The facility in England Airpark in Alexandria, LA is intended to detain families and children, including unaccompanied minors, raising profound moral and humanitarian concerns.
Our faith traditions remind us that children deserve care, families belong together, and every human being is worthy of compassion, dignity, and justice. No child should experience the trauma of detention.
We invite clergy, faith leaders, congregations, and all people of goodwill to join us for this peaceful public witness.
We will be joined by national faith and advocacy partners who are coming to Louisiana to accompany local communities, offer leadership, and help strengthen our collective response to the expansion of immigration detention.
Together, we will pray for children and families facing detention, for those already held in immigration custody, for the communities affected, and for the courage and compassion of those entrusted with making decisions about their lives.
We continue to call upon public officials to cancel the ICE detention contract at England Airpark and pursue humane alternatives that protect children, preserve family unity, and uphold human dignity.
