Countering Christian Nationalism
Christian faith is at its best when it reflects the humility, compassion, and self-giving love of Jesus Christ.
Many faith leaders have expressed concern about the growing influence of Christian Nationalism—the belief that Christianity should hold a privileged place in government, law, and public life, often blurring the distinction between religious faith and national identity. While Christians may hold a wide range of political views, many across theological and denominational lines share a commitment to religious liberty, democratic principles, and the conviction that faith cannot be compelled by the state.
Our ApproachRather than responding with fear or division, LIC seeks to create spaces for learning, relationship-building, faithful reflection, and constructive conversation.
Our work is rooted in several convictions:
Christian faith is centered on allegiance to Jesus Christ, not any political party or nation.
Religious freedom is best protected when it belongs to people of all faiths and none.
Healthy democracy depends upon the equal dignity and participation of all people.
Christians are called to engage public life with humility, truthfulness, and love of neighbor.
Unity in Christ does not require uniformity of opinion.
Regional Gatherings
Across Louisiana, LIC helps convene regional gatherings for clergy and lay leaders who wish to better understand Christian Nationalism and its impact on churches, communities, and public life.
Conversations are designed to be respectful, educational, and welcoming to participants from a variety of Christian traditions.
Each gathering is shaped by the needs and experiences of local participants while remaining connected to a broader statewide network of faith leaders committed to thoughtful engagement and faithful witness.
If you are a pastor, church leader, or layperson interested in learning more about Christian Nationalism and participating in a regional gathering, we invite you to connect with us.
These gatherings provide opportunities to:
Learn how Christian Nationalism differs from historic Christian faith.
Explore its theological, historical, and cultural roots.
Discuss how it appears in local communities and congregations.
Share resources, experiences, and concerns.
Build relationships across denominational and cultural differences.
Discern faithful responses grounded in the teachings of Jesus.
New Orleans
The New Orleans gathering is an official local chapter of Christians Against Christian Nationalism, a nationwide movement that equips Christians to recognize and respond to Christian Nationalism in their communities.
Participants gather regularly for discussion, education, and action, exploring how Christian Nationalism affects both church and society while affirming a vision of Christian faith rooted in humility, love of neighbor, and democratic values.
