This is a round up of links to 2023 Lenten Calendars and other devotional materials that have been made available through LIC Member denominations, Louisiana judicatories, or faith-based advocacy organizations on topics that have been priorities for LIC.
We hope that this list helps you to select a Lenten practice for 2023 that is meaningful to you and deepens your faith and walk with Christ.
These are presented in no particular order.

Tread Lightly for Lent
The Presbyterian Church (PCUSA) Presbyterian Hunger Program strives to walk with people in moving towards sustainable choices that restore and protect all of God’s children and creation. As people of faith, we seek to “serve and preserve” God’s world. However, some of our collective choices have led to a changing global climate, which translates to warmer temperatures, rising sea-levels, and severe storms, just to name a few. To turn this tide, we must commit to treading lightly on God’s Earth. In Lent, we slow down, take time, and examine our internal spiritual lives and the way we live out our Christian faith in the world around us. Our hope is that this Lenten calendar will be the beginning of actions intended to create more mindful behaviors throughout the year.
The “Vital Congregation Initiative Lent 2023 Devotion” offers weekly reflections by pastors and presbytery staff participating in the Presbyterian Church (USA) Vital Congregations Initiative, which is currently in its 5th wave. The Rev. Dr. Gary Neal Hansen, the Rev. Katie Day, the Rev. Dr. Flo Barbee-Watkins and the Rev. Mario A. Bolivar are just some of the contributing writers, who in addition to reflecting on scripture contribute a favorite soup recipe to encourage a practice of fasting once a week during a season traditionally associated with penitence.
The resource is organized according to the 7 Marks of Congregational Vitality: Lifelong Discipleship Formation, Intentional Authentic Evangelism, Outward Incarnational Focus, Empowering Servant Leadership, Spirit-Inspired Worship, Caring Relationships, and Ecclesial Health.
Created by Unbound, a ministry of the Presbyterian Church USA that holds to the ecumenical voice of the Church universal.
“My Indigenous heritage comes from the Akimel O’odham (Pima) and the T’hono O’dham (Papago) of southern Arizona through my father and from the Nimiipuu (Nez Perce) of north-central Idaho. Having grown up in Phoenix, Arizona, I can speak to the experience, a bit, about the desert (wilderness).
Contrary to the biblical narrative, the desert is only a wilderness unless you don’t know where you are going or what provisions you should take along with you. It therefore strikes me as awkward that the Son of God is being seen as “wandering” or that “fasting” equals somehow starving and about to drop dead.”
In Lent, we reflect on Christ’s ministry, death, and resurrection. We slow down, and examine our internal spiritual lives as well as the way we live out our Christian faith in the world. Catholic Charities of Acadiana Lenten Toolkit
During Lent, all are invited to repentance from areas of personal sinfulness and into personal holiness through three main pillars: Prayer, Fasting, and Almsgiving. Catholic Charities of Acadiana's 2023 Lenten calendar helps focus your prayer, fasting, and almsgiving toward meeting the need of our local neighbors who are experiencing hunger.
Through pairing your Lenten observances with CCA's FoodNet Food Bank and St. Joseph Diner, your gifts can serve as a real accompaniment to your suffering neighbors in Acadiana.

Into the Wilderness: A 40 day journey through Lent
The BTS Center invites you to connect with us by receiving a daily reflection each day, based off the Courting the Particular reflections we offered last year.
The reflections will offer a brief opportunity to ground and center and will be delivered via email each morning.
The United Methodist Church offers guidance on ways to observe Lent: Give it up, Plug it in, Serve, and Share it.
